A bit puzzling. When I take out the micro-usb and connect it via wireless adapter, same thing, it'll only accept the driver for 'HID-compliant game controller' whereas if I try to assign it to anything else (XINPUT compatible HID device) it reverts back to 'Unknown Device' under 'Other Devices'.
